Manhattan Testing and Counseling:I developed Manhattan Testing and Counseling to make it easier for people to access high quality mental health services for themselves and their children. Many people are not sure how to find an excellent therapist or parent coach. Equally challenging is the struggle to find a sophisticated psychologist or neuropsychologist to evaluate your child. Many testers use a "cookie-cutter" approach to testing, which is not in you or your child's best interests. I offer individualized services which appreciate the subtleties of you and your child's situation. Equally important is the need for high quality follow-up. It is common for parents to need additional specialists besides my services. Whether it's a speech therapist, psychiatrist, tutor, or occupational therapist I have a network of practitioners who also offer exceptional help.
About Me:I am a Clinical Psychologist, licensed in New York State (License No. 10371). I received my Ph.D. in 1990 from Teachers College, Columbia University. Prior to that, I received a Master's Degree from Bank Street College of Education, and have a background in Special Education. I maintain an active practice testing children and adults. I can do psychological, educational, and neuropsychological evaluations. My evaluations typically cover all three areas, although it depends on what your initial concerns are. In addition, I am an experienced psychotherapist. I accept adults, children, and couples into my practice. In addition, parents frequently come to me for coaching in handling temperamentally difficult children. I've worked for more than twenty years in a range of social service, educational, child welfare, and medical settings. I have worked with both adults and children, helping them grow and change and to cope successfully with the circumstances of their lives. I am also an experienced supervisor of both pre- and post-doctoral psychologists, as well as social workers. I have trained many practitioners in adult and child therapy and evaluation.
About this website:I developed this website to help you learn more about me, and about what you can expect if you choose to come see me. I've tried to anticipate some of the questions prospective clients often have. and to provide information to help you make an informed decision. If you are considering getting your child evaluated:I would urge you to to click the Evaluations link, and to read the detailed information regarding psychological, neuropsychological, and educational evaluations. I tried to include information that would be useful to parents, regardless of whether you choose to have me see your child or not. If you are looking for a therapist for yourself or your child, or would like help in handling your child:I encourage you to contact me. There are many skillful therapists in the New York City area. Choosing the one that's right for you is largely a matter of chemistry. Certainly you should read the basic information that I have provided in these sections of the website (for further information, click on Psychotherapy or Parent Coaching). Most importantly, though, please Contact Me. We can talk, I can answer any basic questions you have, and then if you want we can set up an appointment. That's the best way to see if you "click" with me and feel like I can help you.
